baby The oldest provider of mom/baby residential care in Connecticut, St. Agnes Family Center offers a supportive setting in which young mothers and their infants, regardless of race or religion, are helped to increase their life skills ability and improve their parenting skills. Services offered include pre- and post-natal care, on-site schooling and vocational planning, life-skills education, counseling services, social services and therapeutic day care services

An independent, non-profit corporation, St. Agnes Family Center is licensed by the State Health Department, the Department of Children and Families as well as the Town of West Hartford. St. Agnes Family Center, a colleague agency of Catholic Charities, emphasizes a respect for life, recognizing the unique dignity and optimum potential of each individual.

Goals

  1. To provide a setting in which the single pregnant teen and the teen mother can be supported in making an appropriate plan of care for themselves and their baby.

  2. To provide information and referral, supervised residential care, and follow up support services designed to assist teen mothers in learning parenting skills and independent living skills.

  3. To assist the teen mothers to:
    • learn the skills necessary to maintain good health for self and baby
    • increase understanding of self and of relationships with signifant others
    • implement an educational plan that will realize each young woman's optimum potential.

  4. To assist the teen mother to develop the skills necessary for independent living and to develop her ability to advocate for herself and her infant.
